A temple dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor is located to the north of the main temple of Abu Simbel. At the entrance, large statues of Ramses II stand near those of his queen and chief wife, and are very rare examples where a queen is shown the same size as the king. The queen’s favored position is also reflected in scenes where she is shown standing by Ramses II as he destroys Egypt’s enemies. Nefertari is depicted on the walls with various deities, but her relationship with the goddess Hathor is the most emphasized.
