This civilization spread in the area between Luxor and Abydos and was distinguished by the simplicity of its houses that were built with tree branches and covered with mud. The graves were shallow oval shaped pits. The deceased was laid in fetal position and sometimes wrapped in goatskin. Needles and other small tools made of copper were found. During that period the techniques of manufacturing stone tools and ceramic firing had improved.
