It is the first dynasty in the Old Kingdom. During that period the capital moved to Memphis fully. Its first king was Sanakht who took the throne after his predecessor Khasakhemwy. Turin and Abydos kings’ lists mention five kings in the Third Dynasty while the Saqqara list only mention 4 kings. Most important monuments of this dynasty is Djoser’s pyramid complex in Saqqara. It includes the Step Pyramid, which is the first stone building in history and the first tomb to take the pyramidal shape, though not complete. Vizier, architect, and astronomer Imhotep designed and executed the complex. He was known also for being a physician and a magician and was deified after his death and was associated with the Greek medicine god Asclepius. A museum named after him was built recently in Saqqara. The kings of the Third Dynasty ruled for 75 year ending with king Huni.
