The Nineteenth Dynasty is the second dynasty of the New Kingdom. It was founded by the army general and vizier Ramesses I. King Ramesses I became the successor of Horemheb, the last pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty in spite of the fact that he was not one of his descendants. The time of this dynasty is well known for the military victories in the Levant. Also, it left a great legacy in architecture, literature and war tactics. The kings of this dynasty managed to restore the prestige of Egypt and influences in Asia, which were lost during the reign of Akhenaten, who was had focused on religion and had little interest in the political state of the country or its properties abroad. Also, the kings' list of this dynasty included King Seti I who achieved important victories in battles against the Libyans and the Nubians. His tomb in the Valley of the Kings includes elaborate scenes and decorations. The most famous ruler of the Nineteenth Dynasty was Ramesses II, who was Seti's I son. Ramesses II was the owner of large constructions projects in ancient Egypt. Most of the New Kingdom monuments such as temples, statutes, stelae, etc., bear his name. Ramesses II led a number of military campaigns into the Levant. Including a decisive battle against the kingdom of the Hittites in Asia Minor. This battle took place outside the city of Kadesh in the Levant and resulted in the first bilateral treaty in history. The treaty was recorded on the walls of Egyptian temples and on silver tablets held by the Hittite side.
