The city of Memphis and its necropolis are within the World Heritage Sites since 1979. It was founded by King Narmer in 3100 BC., and continued as the capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom under the name of Inbu-Hedj (meaning "the white walls"). Also, it was a center for worshipping the God Ptah and the name was changed to "Men-Nefer" and then the Greeks modified it to "Memphis", currently Mit Rahina. The necropolis included several important sites such as the Pyramids of Giza plateau, Saqqara, Meidum, Dahshur, Abu Rawash and Abusir.
